About the MUSC Copy
-
The copy presented in the MUSC (the Meisei University Shakespeare
Collection database) is the Fourth Folio copy shelf-marked `932.141 Sh
12 1685-4' and coded `MR 793', sized 360x230 mm. It was acquired by
the Library in 1980. It is of the first issue of the edition. Although
the copy is almost entirely devoid of annotations, it is preserved in
an original binding, complete and clean so that it would make a very
readable facsimile edition of the Fourth Folio on the MUSC website.

Misprinted signatures
-
Misprints occur not only in the text printing but also in signature
printing. Signatures are crucial items for printers to gather the
quires in proper order. According to Greg, the printers of the Fourth
Folio corrected two misprints in the signatures in the course of
printing. Greg also reports that `in many copies several of the more
misleading have been corrected in pen and ink, all apparently by the
same hand' (A Bibliography of the English Printed Drama to the
Restoration, p. 1120). Hand corrections with pen and ink can be found
in MUSC copy on the images numbered 53, 245, 285, 297, 325, and 429.
